If you’ve been building your business for very long at all, you’ve undoubtedly heard that the #1 KEY to success is building your Influence & Credibility.

How do you get people to see you as an Influencer? One that is Credible? One that they WILLINGLY want to b’uy from?

Well, the top expert on the topic, Robert Cialdini, in his book called “Influence” outlines the 6 elements of Influence in his book. They are:

1) Reciprocation. People are more willing to comply with requests (for favors, services, information, concessions, etc.) from those who have provided such things first.

So, in your business, you need to GIVE first. But where do you get the people to give “stuff” to?

2) Commitment/Consistency. People are more willing to be moved in a particular direction if they see it as consistent with an existing or recent commitment. Get them to make a small commitment and they’re much more willing to take the next step and make a bigger commitment.

So, in your business, you want to get people to send something small — say $5 to $20, so that they are more likely to want to spend $100’s to $1,000’s on all the other stuff you have to offer. Again, where do you get the people who are willing to do this? And, what is it that you offer them at the smaller amount?

3) Authority. People are more willing to follow the directions or recommendations of a communicator to whom they attribute relevant authority or expertise.

So, in your business, you need to SHOW folks that you are an Authority and Expert. But how do you do this?

4) Social Validation. People are more willing to take a recommended action if they see evidence that many others, especially similar others, are taking it.

So, in your business, you need to have PROOF that people are b’uying what you offer. But how the heck do you do that?

5) Scarcity. People find objects and opportunities more attractive to the degree that they are scarce, rare, or dwindling in availability. Even information that is scarce is more effective.

So, in your business, one way to create “scarcity” is to have a coaching program or membership site that has limited space available. If you have the other 5 elements of Influence AND limited space, it makes it a LOT easier to get people to buy it! But how do you do that?

6) Liking/Friendship. People prefer to say yes to those they know and like.

So, what does that look like in your business?
