How can you guarantee your success in business?
Oct 11th, 2007 by Gina Gaudio-Graves
I frequently talk about finding your “profitable passion”. I talked about this extensively on my teleconference calls over the last 60 days and again at the event that I co-hosted in Sandusky, Ohio.
Many of those who attended the conference were there specifically to figure out the answer to one question only … “What market should I go after with my business?”
Why is this question so important?
Well, it is the ONE thing that can truly guarantee your success in business!
You see, what I mean by choosing a market, is finding a market that is already BUYING what it is that you are selling.
It’s not enough to know what people are searching for … you must know that they are actually BUYING.
Over the last few days, many people who attended the event in Ohio have called to say that although they understand WHAT to do to find their target market, they don’t know HOW to do it.
They KNOW that they must:
- Make a list of your interests (passions) by dividing into areas in which they are competent, areas in which they have skills, resources they have (i.e. tools, money, etc.), and the networking resources they have (i.e. the people they know, the groups they belong to, and the people they can reach through any of them).
- From that list, determine which areas tyou should research thoroughly
- Find the top 3 to 5 sites in that market and check them out on http://www.quantcast.com to see what the demographics are of that market, and to see what other sites those people are visiting on a regular basis.
- Then, go to your favorite search engine and search for:
[keyword describing that market]+association+statistics
So, if you were interested in weddings, for example, you would enter:
wedding+association+statistics
The problem that these people are running into, though, isn’t how to do this research, it’s how to interpret the data that they find.
In other words, when you learn that the audience for that market is primarily women, aged 45 to 60, with college education or higher, who earn $100,000+ per year, what do you do with that information? How does it change your plan for your business?
It’s a bit difficult to explain to you in a blog post. So, what I’ve decided to do is to hold a webinar that will explain exactly what to do with the data. I’ll show you exactly what you can do once you’ve got this data in your hands.
The webinar is being held on Thursday, October 18th. If you’re interested, make sure that you subscribe to my blog. I’ll be sending out all the details sometime during the middle of next week.
In the meantime, though, you’ll want to do the research on your own market.
Now if you’re already in business, listen up … you still NEED to do this research if you’ve never done it before! You’ll be amazed at how much it can improve your profitability!
Let’s get some discussion going through comments about doing the research and interpreting the data.
