Blogging for traffic generation … what do you think?
Feb 8th, 2007 by Gina Gaudio-Graves
I was talking to one of my friends the other day about our businesses.
We were trying to figure out what the most essential part of our business
was. We kept coming back to the same exact topic, over and over again.
And yet, we kept skipping over it, thinking that we were missing something.
Do you have any idea what that topic could be? What is the absolute
bottom line in making a living online? In other words, what is the one
thing without which, you can never succeed?
I’ve been told by many experts that the most essential thing to an internet
marketer is a list. But that’s not really true. Without this you can’t even
build a list either.
Stumped?
The answer is TRAFFIC!
If you really “bottom line” everything, that’s what it boils down to. Traffic
is the lifeblood of the internet. If you can master traffic generation, you
cannot help but make mo.ne.y online. On the other hand, fail at traffic
generation and you’ll be left sitting empty handed, with no list, every
time.
As I get closer to the release of my new JVSuite.com, I’m realizing
even more just how important traffic really is.
A I sat talking to my friend about the most important thing in our
businesses, I kept coming back to one thing … Joint Ventures are
simply one type of traffic generation method. I know that’s an
interesting way to look at them, but that is ALL that they are.
The one question I kept asking myself, now that I’m a retired JV
Broker, is “But are Joint Ventures the best way to drive traffic?” Or will using a Joint
Venture alone with no other traffic, produce the same results?
Then my friend hesitantly asked me a critical question. Can you
guess what he wanted to know?
Knowing that I have all the “inside scoop” on all of the JVs goinig
on onine, my friend asked: “Did the handful of Joint Ventures that
have been really big in the past month use only the joint venture
to drive traffic or did they use other methods of traffic generation
as well?”
You see, I think that my friend really thought that the joint venture
was the SOLE source of the traffic for every one of those promotions.
But guess what? I don’t know of a SINGLE JV — not a recent one or
one that happened long ago — that was a success JUST because of
the traffic brought in by all of the JV Partners. Those that have been
successful have succeeded ONLY because of multiple types of traffic
being generated to the promotion — NOT because of the joint venture!
This is a very interesting subject, and one that I will be discussing in
more detail here on my blog in the coming days.
This is an area that I see every single one of my clients struggling
with. I can’t remember the last time that I had a client that got this
part of the equation right until I met Henry Gold.
Most people think about Henry as a copywriter. And he is (and a
great one at that!) But honestly, after having worked with Henry
very closely these last few months, let me tell you, that man has
MASTERED the art of traffic generation. That’s one of the biggest
areas that we cover with our group of apprentices (to find more
info on that, check out www.TheMarketingUniversity.com).
Personally, in every JV that I have ever done, I have always had
2 different price points for what I can offer to clients — one included
my using other methods to drive traffic, the other did not.
Here’s the funny part about that, though. No matter how hard I’d
try to explain to the client that it would just be a waste of money
for them to hire me to do the JV without letting me do some of the
other thing as well, They really believe that it was the joint venture
that would bring them success!
Have you experienced this in your own business as well?
Have you been sitting there drooling over what appears to be a
sucessful joint venture and wishing that you had more contacts
in your network?
Did you even realize that even if you had those contacts, that
you’d still be sitting there making no sales?
Yep! It’s True! And that’s what really shocked my friend as we
sat there discussing it.
Here’s the truth … even my friend who has a pretty successful
internet business, didn’t realize that there is a RIGHT WAY and
a WRONG WAY to drive traffic. Nor did he realize that using only
one traffic generation method wouldn’t result in many sales.
That’s when it dawned on me that perhaps you, too, might not
realize any of this. And it gave me a great idea!
How about if I were to open a discussion on my blog and use
it to share with you some of the ways that I’ve seen people use
traffic successfully?
Before I continue to tell you what changes I recommend to
my friend for his business (changes that he’s seeing major
success with in less than a week!), I figure that I’d better get
a better idea of how much you really know about traffic first
so that I don’t leave any of the important details out.
Before I jump right into the solutions, you’ll want to know at
least a little about the following:
* Using web 2.0 methods for driving traffic to your site (and we
could start out with what that really means if you’re unsure)
* Using joint ventures for driving traffic to your site
* Is there a RIGHT WAY or a WRONG WAY to drive traffic? (the
answer is actually pretty interesting!)
* What is a traffic generation SYSTEM?
If you know at least a little about all of these, I can jump right
into what I recommended to my friend so that you can use it
for yourself too. But if you don’t, please give me some idea of
how much background info I’ll need to provide so that you can
REALLY use what I’m about to share with you.
Go ahead and post a comment here on the blog (I don’t even
mind if you do it anonymously!), I’m going to try to get ALL of
your traffic related questions answered in the next 5 days
before I go into the actual SOLUTIONS and how YOU cAN USE
THEM to succeed with your own business!
This is going to be FUN and hopefully, we will all learn a lot about
how to drive traffic to our sites (or maybe even, how NOT to drive
traffic to our sites as well?) so that we can all increase our business
in 2007!

Gina,
Very good points! I agree that the list is important, but one has to know how to drive the traffic to that list.
Keep up the great work,

Driving traffic from virtually scratch without having a list to start with and without taking months to accomplish it is my biggest challenge. I use blogs for my sites and between social bookmarking, tag n ping and search engine listings … that regular posting will bring traffic but not the levels I feel I need to see in order to generate sales on a regular basis.
